The United States online gambling industry is reporting record-breaking revenue for its seven regulated states that offer online casinos.
According to multiple revenue reports, online casinos earned more than $900 million in total for the month of March. Of course, that was with all seven states combined: Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Rhode Island.
Pennsylvania proved to show the most growth, earning over $291 million in revenue for March 2025, up from $230 million the previous year. Pennsylvania first launched online casinos in 2019 and generated $2.1 billion in total revenue for 2023-24.
Michigan and New Jersey earned about $230 million each for March 2025. FOX2 Detroit also said that Michigan was ranked second in the country for online casino and sportsbook traffic, behind New Jersey. Other states brought in less than $100 million but were up in total compared to last year.
States Looking To Pass Online Casino Bills
Several states have considered legalizing online casinos in the US, but have not yet passed any legislation. Below is a list of several states that have submitted online casino legislation in recent legislative sessions.
- Virginia
- North Carolina
- Maryland
- Hawaii
- Massachusetts
Legality of Offshore Online Casinos
While many states have yet to pass any form of online casino legislation, offshore casinos have been servicing the US for years. Popular international brands typically operate from outside the country and offer their services over the web. Since many states have no laws on record, gambling online has been legal for many US players for years.
Whether you’re looking for the newest slot titles or live dealer games, online has been a haven for convenience-seeking players since the early 2000s. Today, international brands are often the most trusted online casinos as they are subject to stricter regulations from world-renowned gaming regulators.
Popular Online Casino Games
Online slots represent the most visited category of online casino games. Their popularity stems from their straightforward nature, the multiple titles and themes available, and the potential for substantial payouts, especially with progressive jackpots.
Blackjack is also one of the most popular online casino games, as it has a high player return and involves betting skills. Other popular games include roulette, which offers multiple ways to bet, and video poker, which is a staple in both online and in-person casinos.
